CARLTON SMITH

Carlton Smith grew up surfing and playing tennis in Orange County, California. Smith’s novel Hippie Home Schooling is at once a dark and romantic story about a flawed man with an uncanny resemblance to a long dead rock star searching for his lost son. The novel takes the reader on a road trip across the western landscape, spanning the vast spaces between San Francisco, the Salton Sea, Arizona’s Four Corners, Lassen, and the lush banks of California’s Russian River.

Carlton Smith studied creative writing at UCLA and San Diego State University, and received a PhD. in English from the University of California. He has taught at many places, including the outreach college classes at the Pala Indian Reservation. Author also of Coyote Kills John Wayne, Carlton has written numerous articles and short pieces of fiction. Hippie Home Schooling is his first novel.
